Following the instructions of the Albanian Government, during March and April 2020, SHUKALB took the necessary measures for every employee to continue working from home.
During this period, in response to the situation of COVID-19, SHUKALB has maintained regular communication with its member water and sewerage utilities by sharing with them relevant and useful information on COVID-19 and its relation to water while at the same time gathering feedback from utilities on the challenges they are facing as a result of this crisis. In the efforts to receive the feedback of utilities SHUKALB conducted a survey during April 2020, the results of which can be found in this Burimi edition.
In addition SHUKALB has planned for two webinars during May 2020 to discuss the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on Albanian water utility companies. The first webinar will share the challenges and the best practices of water utilities and local government in facing the COVID-19 pandemic, while the second webinar will discuss the perspectives of central institutions and donors.
In regard of its Training Program, SHUKALB is preparing to deliver soon two online training courses, “Health and Safety for Water Professionals”, and “Emergency and Crisis Management”. In addition, the training and peer exchange activities in the framework of the Regional Capacity Development Network (RCDN) Project have been rescheduled to be delivered starting from July 2020.
With the suspension of school attendance, SHUKALB had to change the methodology of delivering the High school “Science Fair” Program. The 11th grade students have been working to present their projects in the form of videos. SHUKALB will organize the Science Fair competition between the participating schools through an online event.
Last but not least, SHUKALB has created a dedicated page on its website with the latest information concerning the water supply and sewerage sector in regard to COVID-19 pandemic.
