Anisa Aliaj of SHUKALB Selected Among 1,000 Worldwide Talents of UNLEASH Innovation Lab 2018

Kohët e fundit, Anisa Aliaj, Specialiste për Hartimin e Kurseve të Trajnimit për Kanalizimin dhe Trajtimin e Ujërave të Ndotura pranë SHUKALB, u përzgjodh nga 1.000 talente anembanë botës për të marrë pjesë në UNLEASH Innovation Lab 2018. SHUKALB është i gëzuar të ndajë përvojën e saj në këtë event përmes fjalëve të saj:

“Si një Profesioniste e Re e Ujit duke përfaqësuar Shqipërinë, u ndjeva e nderuar dhe me fat që u përzgjodha midis 7000 aplikantëve në programin UNLEASH Innovation Lab 2018, në Singapor, nga 30 Maj deri me 8 Qershor 2018.  UNLEASH është një iniciativë globale jo fitimprurëse që ka si qëllim adresimin e Ojektivave të Zhvillimit të Qëndrueshëm të Organizatës së Kombeve të Bashkuara.  Eventi i këtij viti mblodhi së bashku 1000 talente nga 108 shtete të ndryshme, të cilët punuan intesivisht për zgjidhjen e disa prej sfidave më emergjente globale.

Gjatë këtij programit tetë-ditor ne kaluam përmes një sfide gjithëpërfshirëse inovative nën udhëheqjen e ekspertëve teknik dhe komercial.  Të ndarë në grupe, punuam për identifikimin e problemeve për secilin prej Objektivave të Zhvillimit të Qëndrueshëm, krijuam zgjidhje dhe avancuan idetë tona përmes procesit të inovacionit.  Në fund të programit, ne prezantuam zgjidhjet tona para pjesëmarrësve, investitorëve dhe ekspertëve nga kompani, fondacione dhe shoqata globale.

Konkretisht, unë u fokusova në Objektivin 6 të Zhvillimit të Qëndrueshëm “Sigurimi i disponueshmërisë dhe administrimit të qëndrueshëm të ujësjellës kanalizimeve për të gjithë”.  Së bashku me katër kolege të tjera nga Shtetet e Bashkuara, Australia dhe Nigeria, punuam për të zgjidhur problemin e vdekshmërisë së fëmijëve në komunitetet rurale në Nigeri, kryesisht të shkaktuara nga kontaminimi me plumb i ujit të pijshëm si pasoj e aplikimit të minierave artizanale të arit. Në fund të programit arritëm të propozojmë një sistem të thjeshtë dhe me kosto të ulët për largimin e metaleve të rënda nga uji i pijshëm. Pas disa investigimeve dhe testimeve të mëtejshme, ky sistem mund të përdoret efektivisht për të parandaluar helmimin nga metalet e rënda në komunitetet e varfra rurale.

Recently, Anisa Aliaj, Course Development Specialist for Wastewater Collection and Treatment at SHUKALB, was selected among 1,000 talents around the world to participate at the UNLEASH Innovation Lab 2018.  SHUKALB is excited to share her experience at the event through her own words:

“As a Young Water Professional representing Albania, I was honoured and fortunate to be selected from a pool of more than 7,000 applicants to participate in UNLEASH Innovation Lab in Singapore from May 30 to June 6, 2018.  UNLEASH is a global non-profit initiative designed to address the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).  The event brought together 1,000 talents from 108 countries to innovate and collaborate on solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges.

During the eight-day program, we went through an immersive innovation challenge facilitated by content and business experts.  In groups, we worked on problems framing around the Sustainable Development Goals, ideated solutions to these problems, and advanced our ideas through the innovation process.  At the end of the program, we pitched our developed solutions in front of other participants, investors, and experts from global companies, foundations, and NGOs.

I was assigned to work on solutions towards SDG 6: Clean Water & Sanitation.  Together with four other colleagues from United States, Australia and Nigeria, we collaborated to solve the problem of child mortality in rural communities in Nigeria, mostly caused by lead contamination of the drinking water due to the practice of artisanal gold mining.  At the end of the programme we managed to propose a simple low-cost drinking water treatment system for removal of heavy metals, which after some further investigation and testing could be effectively used to prevent heavy metals poisoning in poor rural communities.

“This event is not the end, it’s only the beginning”, – was constantly highlighted from the program organizers and facilitators.  I can tell that I totally agree with them; it was not the end for my team and it is definitely only the beginning of my journey as part of the UNLEASH community.”[:]
