SHUKALB Finalizes Successfully the EarthEcho Water Challenge for 2018

SHUKALB ka përfunduar me sukses implementimin e programit EarthEcho Sfida e Ujit për këtë vit.  Programi u zhvillua gjatë periudhës nga 1 maj 2018 deri në fund të dhjetorit 2018, i cili shërbeu si afati i fundit për raportimin e të dhënave në databazën online të programit (www.worldwatermonitoringchallenge.com).

Programi ka për qëllim edukimin dhe nxitjen e angazhimit të nxënësve të klasave të 8-ta në të gjithë Shqipërinë në mbrojtjen e burimeve ujore, nëpërmjet pjesëmarrjes së qytetarëve ne monitorimin e tyre.

Programi i këtij viti angazhoi 24 shkolla fillore anembanë Shqipërisë, duke përfshirë mbi 2.000 fëmijë.  Nxënësit u pajisën me disa pajisje të thjeshta monitorimi të cilat ata përdorën për të matur katër treguesit kryesorë të cilësisë së ujit: oksigjenin e tretur, pH, temperaturën dhe turbiditetin e liqeneve, lumenjve, lumenjve, pellgjeve, rezervuarëve dhe burimeve të tjera ujore në zonat ku ata jetojnë.  Mostrat u morën në një sërë mjedisesh – bujqësore, tregtare, rezidenciale dhe industriale – në 24 qytete në Shqipëri.

Të dhënat e mbledhura nga këto teste (pH, temperatura, turbiditeti, DO) u hodhën nga studentët në faqen e internetit të programit www.worldwatermonitoringchallenge.com, së bashku me të dhënat që janë raportuar nga kolegët e tyre në vende të tjera në botë.  Znj. Afërdita Manjani, mësuese e shkollës “Gjergj Kastrioti” në Lezhë, përgëzoi programin dhe nënvizoi se studentët ishin shumë të interesuar të merrnin rezultatet e monitorimit të burimit ujor në qytetin e tyre.  Ajo tha se një program i tillë na ndihmon të edukojmë brezin e ri mbi rëndësinë e burimeve ujore në jetën tonë.

Ky është viti i 3-të që SHUKALB organizon këtë program, dhe si zakonisht, programi u zhvillua në bashkëpunim me shoqëritë e ujësjellës kanalizime në qytetet e tyre përkatëse.  SHUKALB u mundësua në zbatimin e këtij programi për këtë vit, me ndihmën bujare të sponsori të tij financiar Grantet e Vogla të Komisionit për Demokraci të Ambasadës së SHBA-së në Shqipëri.[:en]

SHUKALB has completed successfully the implementation of the EarthEcho Water Challenge Program for this year. The program started on March 1^st and ran through end of December 2018, the time when the participating students reported also the data they had collected on the program’s online database (www.worldwatermonitoringchallenge.com).

The aim of this Program is to educate and encourage engagement among 8^th grade students across Albania in the protection of the water resources, through participation in more formal citizen monitoring efforts.

The program of this year reached 24 elementary schools across Albania, involving over 2,000 students.  The students were provided with some simple monitoring toolkits that they used to sample the four key water quality indicators: dissolved oxygen, pH, temperature and turbidity, of their local lakes, rivers, streams, ponds, reservoirs and other water bodies in the area where they live.  Samples were taken in a range of settings – agricultural, commercial, residential, and industrial – on 24 cities in Albania.

The data collected from these tests (pH, temperature, turbidity, DO) were uploaded by the students on the program website www.worldwatermonitoringchallenge.com, along with data that have been reported by their peers in other parts of the world. Ms. Aferdita Manjani, teacher of “Gjergj Kastrioti” school in Lezhe, congratulated the program and underlined that the students were very interested to get the monitoring results of the water body in their city. She said such a program helps us to educate the young generation on the importance of water resources in our lives.

This is the 3rd year that SHUKALB organizes this program, and as usual, the program was conducted in collaboration with the water utilities in their respective cities.  SHUKALB was able to implement the program for this year, with the help of the generous support of U.S. Embassy in Albania, through the Democracy Commission Small Grants.[:]
