SHUKALB Organizes Successfully Two Online Peer Exchanges for Successful Infrastructure Waste Water Collection and Treatment Projects

During 15, 16, 17 and 18 December, 2020, SHUKALB organized successfully the Peer Exchanges for the improvement of knowledge for the preparation of successful waste water collection and treatment infrastructure projects, held online via Zoom platform. The meetings were attended by 41 participants from the Central Agency, Municipalities, Water Supply and Sewerage Companies of Kavaja, Saranda, Vlora, Shkodra, Pogradec, Korca, Durres, Elbasan, Himara, Peqin, Kukes, Cerrik, Kruja, Gjirokastra, Kamza and Berat-Kucova.

During the first day, the participants had the opportunity to follow the case study by the Lezha Water Supply and Sewerage Company Lezha, as a successful project of waste water collection and treatment infrastructure in Albania, and on the second day the case study by the Regional Water Company of Hidroregjioni Jugor, Prizren, as a successful project of waste water collection and treatment infrastructure in Kosovo. For both of the above cases the participants participated in a virtual visit to Lezha Wastewater Treatment Plant and Prizren Wastewater Treatment Plant.

These Peer Exchanges were organized in the framework of the project “Regional Capacity Development Network for Water and Sanitation Services (RCDN)” according to the quality standards developed by RCDN. The participation on these trainings for the representatives of Public Utility Companies (PUCs) and National Agency of Water Supply, Sewerage and Waste Infrastructure (AKUM) was supported by the program “Customer and Performance Oriented Drinking Water and Sanitation Services”, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development, implemented by GIZ in Albania.

The event was moderated by Dr. Enkelejda Gjinali, Lecturer, Polytechnic University of Tirana, with the support of Zef Maci, Administrator, Lezha Water Supply and Sewerage Company and Lulzim Paçarizi, Technical Manager, Regional Water Company of Hidroregjioni Jugor, Prizren.

Over the two days the participants were engaged in interactive discussions and shared their professional experiences in the field of sewerage and wastewater treatment. In addition, the participants as per respective utility defined practical measures for the follow-up and decision-making in the phase of feasibility projects. In the coming days each participating PUCs will submit its action plan based on the lessons learned.[:]
