Water Supply and Sewerage Companies of Shkodra, Lezha and Vlora Take Necessary Measures Against the Flood Situation

Albania was faced with high intensity rainfall right in the beginning of January 2021 that resulted in flooding and landslides in many parts of the country. The situation was more challenging for some of the cities in the coastal areas, such as Shkodra, Lezha and Vlora.

In response to this situation, the respective Water Supply and Sewerage Companies (WSS Companies) took the necessary measures to ensure the continuity of water supply and sewerage services.

Special working groups were set up, to monitor daily all the pumping stations and reservoirs. In the case of Shkodra and Lezha, the WSS Companies dismantled the pumps in the stations at risk, situated mainly in the suburbs and rural areas, and then re-assembled them after the situation was normalized.

Right up front, Shkodra WSS Company organized the delivery of the water supply through portable water tank trucks, for the administrative units in emergency situations. In addition, the company has continued the work for cleaning the manholes from various materials accumulated by the large amount of water.

Vlora WSS Company made a great job by informing its citizens through its Facebook page, as well as through the media, to be cautious during hours of intense rainfall and avoid unnecessary exits and movements. . Dozens of issues reported on the company’s communication channels on social networks were handled and resolved in a timely manner.

In addition, the director of Vlora WSS Company, Mr. Shkelqim Leskaj, inspected the situation on the field, such as in Novosele where Vjosa River overflowed its banks and in Xhyherine village, where the rising level of Shushica River put in danger the pumping station in this village.[:]
