SHUKALB Prepares Materials for Awareness Raising and Education of Children on Water Issues and the Protection of Environment

During last year, SHUKALB in partnership and with support from GIZ, in the framework of the project “Customer and Performance Oriented Drinking Water and Sanitation Services” (implemented by GIZ), prepared three animated videos that address issues of drinking water and urban wastewater treatment, brought in a language understandable for 8^th grade students. This work was done also in the framework of the long-term agreement that SHUKALB has with the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth, to raise awareness and educate on water related topics, students at different levels of the education system in Albania.

The videos are suitable for the 8^th grade students and they focus on explaining wastewater treatment processes, but also other aspects such as explaining the water bill, and sharing practical tips on water conservation. The short videos and the electronic booklet can be a great tool for the teachers as well to enrich their teaching experience on environmental related issues.

SHUKALB is grateful to the very good cooperation, for over 10 years, with the Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth and for their support in the implementation of its educational and awareness raising programs, that target 3rd , 8th , 11th grade, and the students of the Polytechnic University of Tirana, Faculty of Civil Engineering. From the first program that started in 2005 till today, SHUKALB has reached out to over 40,000 students at different educational levels, throughout Albania.

We have continuously received a very positive feedback not only from the students that have been part of these programs, but also from the teachers and also the parents of the children. We remain committed to contributing further on this direction, especially even more so now in the context of the objectives set in the National Water Sector Strategy by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy, regarding education of young generations in Albania on water related topics.

Lastly but not the least, SHUKALB is very grateful for the support and the continuous attention that the GIZ bilateral water program has given to these educational programs. Without their precious support, we would not be able to bring programs like this to students and the teachers in Albania.[:]
