SHUKALB Organizes Visits and Training at Water Utilities in The Framework of The “Water Safety Plan and Crisis Management” Program

During February 2021, SHUKALB organized on site visits and training at the water utilities of Kruje, Gramsh, Belsh, Berat-Kucove, Maliq, Lushnje, Durres, Fier and Patos, which are part of the D-LeaP Water Safety Plan and Crisis Management (WSP&CM) Program. The WSP&CM Program is implemented by SHUKALB in the framework of the Project “Providing Support to Municipalities and Public Utilities Managing the Covid-19 Crisis in Albania”, which is commissioned from the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), and administratively embedded in the GIZ Project “Open Regional Fund for Southeast Europe – Modernization of Municipal Services (ORF MMS)”.

The aim of these visits was to collect initial information about the water supply systems and other relevant information that will support the process of developing Water Safety and Crisis Management Plans by each water utility in the next phase.  As part of these visits, SHUKALB team met with all the water utilities directors, as well as the respective technical staff. Invited to participate at the meetings were also representatives of the respective Local Governments, who were present in Belsh and Maliq.

SHUKALB will continue this work in the upcoming weeks and as part of it will conduct more visits and trainings at each participating utility. By the end of the Program, each water utility will have developed a standard Water Safety and Crisis Management Plan.
