SHUKALB Organizes Successfully the National Contest of Its High School “Science Fair” Program

On June 16^th 2021, SHUKALB organized an online national contest, presenting the scientific works performed by high school students in the framework of the High School “Science Fair” Program.

This was the final phase of the program which is designed and implemented by SHUKALB in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth of Albania, together with the Water Supply and Sewerage Companies of Shkodra, Lezha, Durres, Kavaja, Vlora, Peqin and Cerrik. The program is supported by the “Customer and Performance Oriented Drinking Water and Sanitation Services” program, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development, implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).

The High School “Science Fair” program targets 11^th grade students and its goal is to encourage analytic thinking and experimental working between students. This program is a competition where students create and conduct research through scientific methods. They enable students to investigate a scientific topic by seeking information or by proactively engaging with professionals and their teachers.

The jury that evaluated the projects was composed by Monika Vejseli, GIZ; Besnik Rama, Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth of Albania; Flauers Shoshi, National Agency for Water Supply, Sewerage and Waste Infrastructure, Etleva Demiri, Water Regulatory Authority; Klotilda Jaupi, Qemal Stafa High School, Tirana. The opening of the event was followed with a welcome speech by Elisabeta Poci, Executive Director of SHUKALB and moderated by Olta Alla, Program Manager of SHUKALB.

During the event, 11 videos were presented from the projects conceived by students of the high schools participating in the program: “Jordan Misja”, Shkoder, “Hydajet Lezha”, Lezhe, “Leonik Tomeo”, Durres, “11 Shkurti “, Kavaje, “Shaban Demiraj”, Vlore, “Tomorr Sinani” Cerrik and “Zihni Magani” Peqin.

The online event was greeted by Zef Maci, Director, Lezha Water Supply and Sewerage Company and Denalda Ziu, Head of Wastewater Treatment Plant, Vlora Water Supply and Sewerage Company.

The criteria based on which the jury evaluated the project was creativity, project quality, relevance of the selected topic and presentation.

After the evaluation, the jury announced the three winning projects, which are listed below with the respective links of their videos:

First place: “Leonik Tomeo” high school, Durres, titled “Live healthy with clean water”

Second place: “Jordan Misja” high school, Shkoder, titled “Shkodra Lake – Water quality”

Third place: “Jordan Misja” high school, Shkodra, titled “Identifying indicators of trophic levels in Shkodra Lake”

In addition, SHUKALB will distribute medals and encyclopedia books for the students of the three winning projects, and certificates for all the students that participated in the program.[:]
