Join Us in Celebrating World Water Day 2025!

World Water Day, celebrated annually on March 22, is a global initiative led by the United Nations to highlight the importance of freshwater and advocate for its sustainable management. Each year, this day focuses on a specific water-related theme, and for 2025, the chosen theme is “Glacier Preservation.”

Glaciers are melting at an alarming rate due to climate change, disrupting water flows and affecting millions of people through floods, droughts, and rising sea levels. Mitigating climate change and adapting to glacier loss is essential for protecting communities, securing water resources, and preserving ecosystems. This year’s World Water Day emphasizes the need for global action to manage meltwater sustainably and reduce emissions to safeguard the future of freshwater availability.

As in previous years, SHUKALB actively supports water utilities across Albania in organizing public awareness and outreach events to mark this important occasion. This year again, SHUKALB has developed a comprehensive awareness campaign that includes digital promotions, printed educational materials, and special promotional items such as T-shirts, tote bags, and pins featuring the World Water Day logo alongside the logos of participating water utilities.

Water utilities are encouraged to take part in this event by organizing activities in their respective cities. In previous years, these activities included open awareness-raising events in city centers, educational sessions with school students, and poster displays highlighting key messages on water conservation, bill payment, and sanitation. A special focus this year is on organizing OPEN DAY events at water treatment plants, giving citizens and students an opportunity to learn about water supply processes firsthand.

SHUKALB will provide customized materials for water utilities to ensure that the message of glacier preservation and other essential water-related topics reaches as many people as possible. Water utilities interested in hosting awareness activities for World Water Day 2025 are encouraged to reach out to SHUKALB at program@shukalb.al . We also invite all participating utilities to share photos from their events, which will be showcased on our social media platforms and featured in the next issue of BURIMI e-newsletter.
