SHUKALB Participates in the D-LeaP Training of Trainers Program on Water Safety Planning and Crisis Management

From 17 to 21 March 2025, SHUKALB took part in the Training of Trainers (ToT) for the Danube Learning Partnership (D-LeaP) Water Safety Planning and Crisis Management Program, organized by the International Association of Water Service Companies in the Danube Region (IAWD). The training took place at the World Bank premises in Vienna, Austria, and aimed to enhance the ability of trainers to guide water utilities in developing effective crisis management strategies and Water Safety Plans (WSP).

Representing SHUKALB were Olta Alla, Program Manager and Training Coordinator, and Etleva Demiri, Head of Technical and Licensing Sector at the Water Regulatory Authority of Albania. They were joined by trainers from the Bulgarian Water Association.

The objective of the ToT was to provide in-depth knowledge on identifying hazards in water supply systems, establishing crisis management organizational structures within utilities, and defining the roles of strategic and operational management during crises. The training also focused on the procedural aspects of crisis management and the development of Water Safety Plans to improve the resilience of water utilities.

The agenda of the ToT included comprehensive sessions on risk management, crisis management manuals, and practical crisis management training. The event was led by Christian Plohberger, with support from Deshire Kurtaj, from Protectum Solutions.

This ToT is part of IAWD’s continued efforts through D-LeaP to support and strengthen national water associations in providing high quality capacity development programs to their water utilities, in their local language. SHUKALB has planned to offer the D-LeaP Water Safety Planning program for the interested water utilities, also this year.
