Fier Strengthens Water and Sewerage Services through Municipal Infrastructure Program V

The Fier Region Water Supply and Sewerage Company is driving significant improvements in the city’s water and sewerage infrastructure through the Municipal Infrastructure Programme V (MIP V). This initiative is co-financed by KfW, SECO Switzerland, and the European Union, and implemented by National Agency for Water Supply and Sewerage (AKUK) in collaboration with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy.

Delivering Clean Water to Communities

A major milestone of the program is the establishment of a new water supply zone in the Ish Parku area. This upgraded system now provides 400 families with uninterrupted 24/7 access to clean drinking water, representing a substantial improvement in both service quality and reliability.

Comprehensive Infrastructure Upgrades

Beyond the new supply zone, the MIP V program encompasses a wide range of improvements, including:

• Rehabilitation of over 35 km of distribution network across designated metered areas (DMAs)
• Upgrades to the Kafaraj well field and installation of a new pumping station
• Full SCADA integration for advanced monitoring and operational control
• Construction of more than 8,700 meters of new sewerage pipelines
• Reinforcement of the Koshovice reservoir complex to enhance system resilience

Building a Sustainable Water System

These upgrades are part of an integrated strategy to reduce water losses, improve service quality, and ensure the long-term sustainability of water supply and sanitation services in the region.

Impact for residents

Once complete, the program will benefit over 104,000 residents in Fier and surrounding villages, providing safer, more reliable, and resilient water and sewerage services. By combining modern infrastructure with advanced monitoring and operational improvements, the Fier Region Water Supply and Sewerage Company is laying the foundation for sustainable urban development and enhanced quality of life.
