SHUKALB Successfully Concludes Module 3 and the Experience Exchange of the Capacity Development Program for Wastewater

From 1–3 October 2025, in Peja, Kosovo, SHUKALB successfully conducted Module 3: Project-Related Aspects and the Experience Exchange – Case Study of the Wastewater Treatment Plant in Peja, as part of the program “Introduction to Wastewater Collection and Treatment Technologies”, within the framework of the Regional Capacity Development Network (RCDN) project.

This module marks the completion of the multi-day capacity development training program, following Module I, which focused on regulatory and financial aspects, and Module II, dedicated to wastewater treatment technologies.

The training brought together technical and managerial representatives from the water and wastewater utilities of Berat, Gjirokaster, Korçe, Elbasan, and Durres, as well as representatives from the Water Regulatory Authority (ERRU) and the National Agency for Water Supply and Sewerage (AKUK).

During the training, participants had the opportunity to deepen their understanding of:

• The life cycle of infrastructure projects
• The interpretation of feasibility studies for wastewater treatment systems
• The key issues related to treatment plants and the quality of treated effluents

The three-day program featured interactive presentations, group work, educational games, and a practical site visit to the Peja Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP), where participants analyzed the design, implementation, and operation phases of real wastewater treatment projects.

The training format was highly appreciated for its practical and interactive approach, encouraging experience exchange among sector professionals and strengthening institutional cooperation between Albania and Kosovo.

The training was delivered by a team of field experts: Prof. Enkelejda Gjinali (Polytechnic University of Tirana), Evis Gjebrea (Tirana Water Supply and Sewerage Utility), Jovan Gjika (National Agency for Water Supply and Sewerage), and Dukagjin Nishiqi (RWC Hidrodrini, Peja).

At the conclusion of the program, participants shared reflections on the knowledge gained and discussed ways to apply it to improve the planning and management of wastewater projects across the region.
