On November 26, 2025, SHUKALB successfully conducted the first workshop of the D-LeaP Water Safety and Crisis Management Program, supported by the Danube Learning Partnership (D-LeaP). The workshop marked the opening of a four-day training cycle aimed at strengthening the resilience and security of water supply systems across Albania.
Representatives from the regional Water Supply and Sewerage (WSS) companies of Lezha, Saranda, and Korça participated in this first workshop, which combined theoretical and practical exercises. Participants were introduced to the development of flow-charts for water supply systems and the preparation of organizational charts for Water Safety Plans (WSP) and Crisis Management Plans (CMP).
The workshop also included a SWOT analysis of current system structures, helping participants identify key operational risks. Practical discussions focused on critical processes affecting water safety and effective incident response.
Led by trainers Elton Hasanaj and Olta Alla, the session guided participants through the design of structures necessary for preparedness, response, and recovery in case of crises or emergencies.
The program addresses growing challenges such as increased pollution and the rising frequency of natural disasters including floods and droughts, that threaten the ability of WSS companies to provide sustainable services.
This initial workshop sets the stage for the subsequent sessions, which will cover roles in crisis management, improvement and monitoring plans, field visits to critical points in water supply systems, and comprehensive crisis management planning.
This marks the third implementation of this important program for water utilities in Albania. SHUKALB thanks all participants for their engagement and collaboration in this vital initiative, which contributes to more resilient and secure water services in Albania.
