“Modern Technologies and Professional Dialogue for the Future of Wastewater Treatment” Workshop

On December 10, at the Xheko Imperial Luxury Hotel in Tirana, Novamat SHPK, a member of SHUKALB and an exclusive representative of BIOWORKS® Verfahrenstechnik GmbH in Albania and Kosovo, organized the technical workshop titled “Modern Technologies for Wastewater Treatment – Technical Workshop by Novamat & BIOWORKS® in cooperation with SHUKALB.
The event brought together representatives from the Water Supply and Sewerage Utilities of Tirana, Durres, Shkoder, Korçe, Lezhe, Berat, and Gjirokaster, as well as from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy, the National Ageny for Water Supply and Sewerage (AKUK), the Water Regulatory Authority (ERRU), the Albanian Development Fund (FSHZH), the National Environment Agency (AKM), the Agency for the Management of Water Resources (AMBU), the Institute of Public Health (ISHP), GIZ, the Bavarian Liaison Office in Albania, the German-Albanian Chamber of Industry and Commerce (DIHA), private companies such as Hidromentori shpk and Water Boutique shpk, as well as the academic community of the Polytechnic University of Tirana.
Olta Alla, Program Manager and Training Coordinator at SHUKALB, opened the workshop by emphasizing in her welcoming remarks that wastewater treatment is a critical issue for public health, the protection of water resources, and Albania’s commitments within the European integration process. She highlighted the importance of technological innovation and internationally proven solutions for improving the performance of the wastewater treatment plants, as well as SHUKALB’s commitment to promoting and facilitating the exchange of innovative water management technologies and practices through partnerships with international research institutions and technology providers.

Following the opening remarks, participants were welcomed by Mehmet Krasniqi, CEO of Novamat, who underlined the importance of long-term cooperation with BIOWORKS® and Novamat’s commitment to bringing advanced technological solutions and professional support to Albania’s water and wastewater sector operators.
The program continued with a presentation by Dipl.-Ing. Marcus Vollmer, CEO of BIOWORKS® Verfahrenstechnik GmbH, who introduced three of the company’s core biological wastewater treatment technologies: Aerated Lagoons, ASBR (Sequencing Batch Reactor), and MBR (Membrane Bioreactor). The technical presentations were accompanied by discussions on practical applications, operational requirements, and the technical benefits of each technology.

Participants also had the opportunity to attend a dedicated presentation by a representative of NETZSCH Pumpen & Systeme GmbH, which shared the company’s expertise and modern solutions for pumping systems in wastewater treatment plants, as well as in other industrial applications.
This workshop represents a concrete step towards SHUKALB’s objective to fostering technology transfer and cooperation among key sector stakeholders, contributing to the promotion of modern technologies and sustainable solutions aimed at improving the performance of wastewater treatment plants.
