The reconstruction of the Manskuri Water Treatment Plant is entering its final phase, marking another important step toward improving water infrastructure and ensuring a sustainable supply of drinking water for the country’s coastal areas.
This investment, financed by the state budget with a value of over 307 million ALL, has already reached 82% completion. With a 9-month implementation period, the project is expected to be finalized by the end of May 2026—just in time to meet the increased demand of the tourist season.
The Manskuri treatment plant is designed to process water sourced from the Manskuri reservoir, with a maximum capacity of 120 liters per second. This new source provides a concrete solution to the growing demand for potable water in the coastal tourist areas of Kavaja, which for years have faced supply challenges, especially during the summer months.
A key component supporting this project is the completion of the Manskuri dam reconstruction in March 2026, an investment carried out by the National Agency for Water Supply and Sewerage (AKUK). This infrastructure ensures a stable supply of raw water to the treatment plant, creating a fully integrated and functional system from source to consumer.
Thanks to this investment, key tourist destinations such as Shkembi i Kavajes, Mali i Robit, Qerret, and Golem are expected to benefit from a more reliable and higher-quality water supply. This not only improves service standards for residents and businesses, but also significantly enhances the experience for tourists, directly contributing to the area’s economic development.
Durres Regional Water Supply and Sewerage Company has played an important role in overseeing and implementing this project, demonstrating strong commitment and professionalism in managing strategic investments in the water sector. Their continued efforts are reflected in improved service quality and the development of more sustainable and efficient infrastructure.
With the plant expected to become operational before the summer season, long-standing water supply issues in these tourist areas are set to be resolved, paving the way for a smoother and more successful season for all stakeholders involved.
