World Water Day, observed annually on March 22, continues to serve as a global platform to highlight critical water-related challenges and inspire collective action. This year’s theme, “Water and Gender,” emphasizes the strong link between water access and gender equality, calling for more inclusive and equitable water services worldwide.
As part of its ongoing commitment to strengthening public awareness and supporting the sector, SHUKALB once again partnered with water utilities across Albania to mark this important day through a range of outreach and communication activities. Building on the success of previous years, SHUKALB developed and distributed a comprehensive package of awareness materials, including short videos, social media content, posters, and key messages focused on water conservation, sanitation, and the importance of inclusive water services.

In addition to digital resources, SHUKALB provided printed materials and branded items such as T-shirts, tote bags, pins, posters, and roll-ups featuring the World Water Day 2026 theme alongside the logos of participating utilities. These materials supported local awareness efforts and were widely used in social media campaigns and visibility activities carried out by water utilities in their respective cities.
Water utilities actively engaged their communities by sharing awareness messages through online platforms and public-facing communication channels, helping to bring the World Water Day message closer to citizens across the country. Across several cities, utilities also created opportunities to engage younger audiences through interactive and informative experiences, helping children better understand how drinking water is treated, monitored, and delivered to their homes. These moments combined learning with curiosity, introducing the importance of water quality and public health in a simple and engaging way.

A special emphasis this year was placed on promoting the role of women in the water sector and the importance of equal participation and representation in water-related services and decision-making.
Through these coordinated efforts, SHUKALB and its member utilities reinforced the importance of inclusive approaches to water management and demonstrated how local action can contribute to global goals. By placing gender equality at the center of water solutions, this year’s World Water Day activities helped promote a more equitable, sustainable, and resilient future for all.
SHUKALB extends its appreciation to all participating utilities for their continued dedication and encourages them to share their experiences and best practices, helping to amplify the impact of these initiatives across the sector.
