The First 3 Regional Water Supply and Sewerage Companies Established in the Framework of the New Reform in the Sector

On 28 June 2022, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy completed the establishment of the first three Regional Water Supply and Sewerage Companies, in accordance with the latest Decision of the Council of Ministers (DCM) no. 302, dated 11.5.2022 “On national policies for the reorganization of the water supply sector and the disposal, treatment and processing of wastewater”.
The first three new regional companies are:
Durres Regional Water Supply and Sewerage Company, which will serve the municipalities of Durres, Kruje, Kavaje, Rrogozhine and Shijak
Korça Regional Water Supply and Sewerage Company, which will serve the municipalities of Korça, Devoll, Maliq, Kolonje and Pustec
Pogradec Regional Water Supply and Sewerage Company, which will serve the municipalities of Pogradec and Prrenjas
Currently, the three new companies have completed the process of signing the standard agreements for the establishment of the new regional companies, called entities with joint competences on water and sewerage services (SKP-UK), as stated in the DCM. The new companies have already organized the special structure for the registration of water resources, the unification of the billing system, the financial system, and the drafting of a new Business Plan. In addition, in the following days, the governing bodies of the new companies will be approved, such as the General Assembly; Supervisory Board and the Administrator.
The Decision of the Council of Ministers no. 302, foresees the establishment of 15 Regional Water Supply and Sewerage Companies throughout Albania, a process that will be finalized within this year, according to a coordinated program between local government units and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy.[:]
