Wastewater as a Resource – Time to Integrate the Circular Economy Principles

In a world where demand for fresh water is continuously growing and where the limited water resources available are becoming increasingly stressed by over-abstraction, pollution and climate change, wastewater presents opportunities for successfully recovering resources contributing to circular economy and enabling long-term sustainable development. The report published by the European Investment Bank in May 2022, provides a concise overview of these opportunities.

In July 2022, SHUKALB and Global Water Partnership-Mediterranean (GWP-Med) organized successfully an innovative, first of its, kind workshop for Albanian water sector stakeholders on “Wastewater Management in the context of Circular Economy”. The workshop provided participants with a 360o view on the benefits and opportunities for synergies across sectors in the proper management of Wastewater.
