Cerrik Water Supply and Sewerage Company: Reconstruction of the Pumping Station “Objekti 97”

Cerrik Water Supply and Sewerage Company (Cerrik WSSC) has recently completed the reconstruction of the pumping station “Objekti 97”, an investment financed by the German Government through GIZ Albania. As of July 2022, Cerrik WSSC is part of Elbasan Regional Water Supply and Sewerage Company.

The pumping station “Objeti 97” was built around the 1950s in order to supply water to Thermal Power Plant and the Oil Refinery Plant, while today it is used as an intermediate station, where there are 2 reservoirs of 1,000 m3 each which are supplied through wells. Today the station serves to supply the villages of Shala and Xibrake.

The investment came mainly as a need to reduce the high consumption of electricity at this station, where were installed two pumps of 200kw each, working on a reduced schedule.

The investment aimed 4 main objectives:

• Increasing the efficiency of electricity

Referring to the energy costs of this station for the year 2021, the billing of this intermediate station accounted for about 36% of the total billing of all pumping stations of Cerrik WSSC. For this reason, the two pumps of 200 kW were replaced with 45 kW pumps each, which will ensure the increase in electricity efficiency by 40%.

• Guaranteeing 24/7 water supply service for the villages of Shale and Xibrake

From this station, 5,516 residents of the villages of Shale and Xibrakë are supplied with drinking water, who now will receive 24 hours a day service.

• Reconstruction of the building and Improvement of working conditions

Since its construction in the 50s, the pumping station has not undergone any other reconstruction. The station was in very bad condition as the lighting at night was very poor, putting the lives of the station’s employees at risk. The facade had to be renovated and repaired.
