SHUKALB Supports Albanian Water Utilities in Celebrating World Water Day 2023

Every year, World Water Day highlights a specific aspect of water and is a unique opportunity to draw attention and create momentum that compels governments, the international community, civil society, and individuals to take action.

This World Water Day, 22^nd March, was about accelerating change to solve the water and sanitation crisis and because water affects us all, we need everyone to take action. Everyone can make a difference by changing the way we use, consume and manage water in our lives.

As traditionally, SHUKALB supported water utilities across Albania to organize public awareness and education activities in their cities. SHUKALB prepared and distributed short videos and posters with informative and awareness raising messages on the importance of saving water, understanding the water bill, that were further used by water utilities in organizing their digital awareness campaign through their social media.

In addition, SHUKALB prepared and distributed leaflets with awareness messages, T-shirts, Tote bags, and pins with WWD logo and the logo of the water utilities, which were used by water utilities in organizing their traditional awareness campaign in their respective cities.

In the city of Korça students of elementary and high schools chose to visit the Wastewater Treatment Plant. The staff of Korça Regional Water Supply and Sewerage Company (Korça RWSSC) informed them about the operation of the plant, the method of biological treatment of the wastewater with an aeration system, its technological process, as well as the full compatibility of the plant with European standards.

In the city of Shkoder, Shkoder Water Supply and Sewerage Company (Shkoder WSSC), with the support of Shkoder Municipality, prepared a public event at the center of the town. The focus of the event was to inform citizens about the services offered by the utility, raising awareness about saving drinking water as a vital asset for humanity, why should we pay the water bill and what do we pay on water bill? A special place was also given to the children, who had fun and were entertained throughout the duration of the event organized by Shkoder WSSC.
