SHUKALB Participates at the 3^rd European Forum on the Regulation of Water Services

The 3^rd European Forum on the Regulation of Water Services (EFRWS23) was organized on 6^th of December 2023, in Brussels, Belgium by the European Association of Water Regulators (WAREG). The EFRWS23 on the Regulation of Water Services focused on the evolving European legislation to achieve EU Green Deal targets. Economic and social implications in the water sector, climate neutrality, and water resilience have been at the center of discussion with European Water Regulators, EU Institutions and stakeholders.

SHUKALB was represented at the forum by Elisabeta Poçi, Executive Director, who was featured as a speaker at the Panel 3: Towards Water Resilience in the EU and Neighboring Countries. Elisabeta shared an overview of the situation in the water sector in Albania, the status of the newly utility aggregation reform as well as some of the pressing issues of the water sector, such as non-revenue water, energy efficiency, wastewater and sludge management. In addition, she presented the efforts and the key role of SHUKALB in capacitating people who work in the sector, through its capacity development programs and training courses, as well as engagement in several regional initiatives and cooperations.

The program of the EFRWS23 included two other discussion panels: Panel 1: EU’s New Wastewater Directive: Impacts on Customers and Industry; and Panel 2: EU Vision for Climate Neutrality and the Water-to-Energy Nexus.

In addition, the EFRWS23 was attended also by a delegation from the Regulatory Authority of Albania (ERRU). Mr. Ndricim Shani, the Chairman of the Regulatory Authority of Albania is Vice President of WAREG.
