From Justice to Water: An Insightful Interview with Fatjon Turmetaj, Head of Procurement at Shkoder Regional Water Supply and Sewerage Company

Mr. Turmetaj opens up about his passion for justice, his journey in the water sector, and the dynamic challenges he faces daily.

What attracts you most in the profession you have chosen?

Justice! I have always been driven by a deep sense of justice. When choosing my profession, I wanted to contribute to improving the Albanian justice system, even in a small way. By becoming a lawyer in public administration, I committed myself to upholding the law and ensuring administrative procedures are followed accordingly.

How many years have you been working in the water sector?

My career has been closely tied to the water sector. After finishing school in 2009, I started at the Shkoder Drainage Board as a lawyer, a role I held for six years. It was there that I encountered my first professional challenges and, through dedication and persistence, grew professionally.

In 2015, I transitioned to the role of Administrative-Legal Director, overseeing five sectors: Legal and Procurement, Human Resources, Task Force, IT, and Support Services. I served in this capacity for eight years until the regionalization of Shkoder Water Supply and Sewerage company, after which I focused on the Procurement Unit of the new regional water utility.

What do you like most about your job?

What I value most is the constant learning experience. Every day presents a new challenge! The frequent legal changes and advancements in technology make the work both challenging and dynamic. At Shkoder Water Supply and Sewerage Company, now regional, I’ve found a dedicated and cooperative staff. From day one, I received unwavering support from my team of associates, which has been incredibly motivating.

What message do you want to give to young people, the new generation who want to work in the water sector?

My principle is simple: if you love what you do, you will never tire. Passion for your work keeps you motivated and allows you to give your best. So, find what you love, and pursue it with all your heart.
