Hyqmet Ruci, born on September 20, 1964, is one of the most respected names at the Regional Water Supply and Sewerage Company of Berat. For over 40 years, he has been closely connected to the water supply system of the city and currently holds the position of Head of the Water Collection and Distribution Sector in the Berat Unit.

How many years have you been working in the water sector?

“I started working in September 1984, at the former electro-water supply enterprise. Since then, I’ve been continuously involved in this sector, contributing for 40 years to the supply and distribution of water in my city.”

What do you like most about your profession?
“The greatest satisfaction in this profession comes when you see that your work truly matters. When citizens thank you for your help, when they feel heard and supported—a kind word from them fills you with pride and motivates you to continue with dedication.”

What are the biggest challenges in your work?
“The biggest challenge I face is ensuring the water supply for citizens, especially at times when there is a shortage. You must react quickly, find timely solutions, and avoid any consequences that could affect the community.”

Can you describe your typical workday?
“My day starts with direct communication with the staff to analyze any issues encountered the previous day. Then I report to the technical office and follow up on every citizen’s complaint or concern until it is fully resolved.”

What message do you want to give to the younger generation interested in working in the water sector?
“Only through hard work and overcoming difficulties can you grow professionally and become someone in life. This is a field that demands constant commitment, but it also offers great satisfaction when done wholeheartedly.”
