The 2025 Danube Water Conference, held from 14–16 May in Vienna, brought together 216 participants from 27 countries—including 15 Danube region countries and, for the first time, representatives from Central Asia. Under the theme “Looking Back, Looking Forward,” the event featured over 60 distinguished speakers and contributors, addressing pressing issues and future directions in the water sector.
A strong Albanian delegation took part in the conference, including representatives from public water utilities, the National Water Supply and Sewerage Agency (AKUK), the Water Regulatory Authority (WRA), private companies, and SHUKALB. Their active participation underscored Albania’s commitment to advancing water sector reforms and sharing regional best practices.

Among the speakers at the conference was Petrit Tare, Administrator of Korça Regional Water Supply and Sewerage Company and President of SHUKALB. He contributed to the session titled “Beyond Utility Reach? How to Close the Urban – Rural Access Gap,” held on 16 May 2025. Through his presentation, “Albania’s Water Sector Regionalization Reform: A Perspective from the Korça Regional Water Company,” Mr. Tare shared insights into the implementation of Albania’s major water sector reforms. He focused on how Korça water utility has successfully expanded its services to rural areas following the Administrative-Territorial Reform of 2015 and the Regionalization Reform of 2022, while still maintaining financial sustainability of the utility and level of services.
SHUKALB is proud of the Albanian delegation’s contributions at this important regional conference and remains dedicated to strengthening cooperation and innovation in the water sector.
