January 2026 Floods: Durres Regional Water Supply and Sewerage Company Successfully Concludes Interventions and Restores Normality

Heavy rainfall in early January caused flooding in several areas of the city of Durres and its surroundings, creating difficulties for residents and putting the sewerage infrastructure to the test. Following the situation caused by the intense rainfall of January 6, the Durres Regional Water Supply and Sewerage Company (SHRUKD) responded immediately, deploying a large number of employees and technical resources in the field.

Sewerage teams carried out interventions to clean collectors, unblock manholes and sewer networks, and manage increased water inflows, with the aim of minimizing damage and ensuring public safety. At the same time, SHRUKD provided direct assistance to affected residents, supporting water removal from homes, inspecting internal networks, and offering the necessary technical support.

Among the most affected areas were the former Keneta area in the city of Durres, as well as the administrative units of Sukth, Katund i Ri, Vadardhe, and Kulle. In these areas, several SHRUKD teams were deployed simultaneously, working in close cooperation with the Municipality of Durres, Civil Emergency structures, and the State Police. As part of this coordinated effort, teams also participated in the evacuation of residents, ensuring the safety of families at risk.

During the interventions, SHRUKD personnel and equipment carried out water pumping from homes, garages, social and educational facilities, cleared channels and manholes blocked by sediment and debris, and removed water using pumps and heavy machinery where necessary. The intensive engagement of the teams enabled the stabilization of the situation and the gradual restoration of normal conditions in the affected areas.

Thanks to the immediate response, dedication, and uninterrupted work of sewerage and maintenance personnel, the flooding situation was successfully managed and services were restored to normal operation. SHRUKD expressed its gratitude to all employees and involved institutions, acknowledging the professionalism and responsibility demonstrated during these challenging days.
