New Water Supply Network for Vlora Nears Completion, with 95% of Works Completed
The city of Vlora is approaching the completion of an important investment in its water supply infrastructure. The New Water Supply Network project has reached approximately 95% completion and is now entering its final implementation phase.
The investment is being implemented under the “Municipal Infrastructure V” Programme, with the support of the Albanian Government, the German Government, KfW, SECO and the European Union.
An important part of the project is the gradual transition to the new water supply network. Household connections to the new network have already been completed, while the installation of water meters is currently underway. Around 50% of the meters have already been installed at beneficiary properties.
Significant progress has also been made in restoring the road infrastructure affected by the works. Approximately 95% of the roads where the new water supply network was installed have already been asphalted.
Due to the tourist season, works related to connecting the network nodes have been temporarily suspended. Following the official end of the tourist season, works are expected to resume around mid-September. During this phase, approximately 30 nodes of the new network will be connected to the existing network, representing an important step in the transition towards the full operation of the new network.
The project also includes improvements to the city’s main water reservoirs, which will be equipped with new control rooms. These upgrades will contribute to more efficient management of the water supply system.
Preparations for the final phase are already underway. At the end of August, Klevis Kaso, Director of the Regional Water Supply and Sewerage Company of Vlora, held a meeting with the project supervisor and representatives of the company implementing the New Water Supply Network. The meeting, held at the company’s premises, focused on preparations for the resumption of works in the autumn and the completion of the remaining activities.
During the meeting, Director Kaso called on the implementing company to ensure the quality of the works, comply with the established deadlines and maintain close institutional coordination, with the aim of ensuring the successful completion of one of the most important projects for the water supply of the city of Vlora.
With approximately 95% of the works already completed, the New Water Supply Network for Vlora is now entering its final stage. The resumption of works after the tourist season, the connection of the remaining network nodes to the existing network and the continued installation of water meters will mark the final steps towards the full operation of the new network.
