Every year, World Water Day highlights a specific aspect of water and it is a unique opportunity to draw attention and create momentum that compels governments, the international community, civil society, and individuals to take action.
SHUKALB has a long history in supporting water utilities recognize and celebrate this important day. Even this year, adapting to the restrictions of COVID-19 pandemic, SHUKALB supported its member water utilities through designing promotional materials such as awareness videos, cards and posters with the message of the World Water Day, that were further used by the utilities in organizing their online outreach campaigns. The water utilities shared the World Water Day materials for their campaign on social media using hashtags such as #Water2me, #WorldWaterDay and tagging SHUKALB @Water Supply and Sewerage Association of Albania.
In addition, on 22 March 2021, Elisabeta Poçi, Deputy Executive Director of SHUKALB was invited by Scan Television to talk about the World Water Day, the importance of water as a very important asset for our lives, as well as other aspects of its good management. The theme chosen by United Nations for this year’s World Water Day, was “Valuing Water”. The value of water is about much more than its price – water has enormous and complex value for our households, culture, health, education, economics and the integrity of our natural environment. If we overlook any of these values, we risk mismanaging this finite, irreplaceable resource. SDG 6 is to ensure water and sanitation for all. Without a comprehensive understanding of water’s true, multidimensional value, we will be unable to safeguard this critical resource for the benefit of everyone.
