At the beginning of December, the city of Vlora was faced with high-intensity rain showers, causing huge flooding in various parts of the city.\u00a0 Despite of the difficult situation, Vlora Water Supply and Sewerage Company (WSSC) managed to successfully handle the situation created by the heavy rains.\u00a0 Vlora WSSC and local authorities notified the citizens and the local businesses on the potential of flooding some days prior to the heavy rains.\u00a0 These early warnings helped to keep the damages from flooding at minimum levels.<\/p>\n

The working groups let by the Vlora WSSC were fully engaged on the field, at day and night time, to bring the city back to normality, by cleaning up the sewer network in several areas of the city.\u00a0 Special attenditon was also paid to the main avenue of the city and to some other junctures recognized as problematic.\u00a0 Vlora WSS made available specific equipment to the locals to remove water from the inundated areas and to simultaneously clean the water supply pipelines.<\/p>\n

Such works were implemented under the direct leadership and monitoring of the Director of Vlora WSSC Dorian Xhelili, who engaged all the staff of the company, who went door-to-door to assist the households affected by floods.<\/p>\n

The area mostly affected by floods was that of Novosela, where because of water washing over Vjosa\u2019s riverbed, the drinking water system was damaged.\u00a0 Vlora WSSC notified all the inhabitants of Novosela and of the surrounding areas not to use water for drinking or cooking purposes, until a second notification was released.\u00a0 Thanks to the tireless work of the staff of the unit of Novosela, the defect in the water-supply network was repaired, and the situation was brought back to normality.<\/p>\n

Upon normalization of the situation caused by flooding, Vlora WSSC continued with its actions to clean out the stormwater canals, a considerable number of which end up in the biggest pumping station of the city.\u00a0 While a significant amount of work has been done to this end, a concerning phenomenon has been noticed by the staff of Vlora WSSC.\u00a0 A number of irresponsible citizens damp trash in the sewerage network, causing this way blockages and in some cases damages to the network.\u00a0 \u00a0Besides raising awareness on this issue, Vlora WSS is working also with the relevant authorities to ensure that such events do not continue to happen in the future.<\/p>\n

In addition to its routine work, in the context of the end-of-year celebrations, Vlora WSSC has been active in fulfilling also its corporate social responsibilities.\u00a0 Under the special auspicious of the Director, Dorian Xhelili, the company prepared and delivered presents to the children of the Special School PLM in Vlora.\u00a0 While handing the presents over to the children, Director Xhelili said: \u201cWe are here to cheer up these children with some presents at this holiday season..\u00a0 Via this modest gesture, we wish to demonstrate that we remain close to the citizens in every way we can. These children need support and love more than anyone else.\u00a0 This is also part of the new image, that we all, together with our young staff, want to create for the Water Supply and Sewerage Company of Vlora\u201d.[:]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
