After the launching of the water sector reform and the \u201cAction for Water\u201d by the Albanian Government in the beginning of November 2017, the water utility members of SHUKALB have immediately taken the necessary measures for its successful implementation.<\/p>\n

Every water utility has informed its customers through their communication channels regarding the aim of the Action for Water, the necessary steps to be taken by the customers, and the respective deadlines.\u00a0 During this period the water utilities have been encouraging their customers to declare their illegal connections, and legalize the relationship with the water utility through a service contract.<\/p>\n

Some utility directors, such as Dorian Xhelili, director of Vlora Water Supply and Sewerage Company (Vlora WSSC), and Mark Molla, director of Shkodra Water Supply and Sewerage Company (Shkodra WSSC), have been present at local televisions, raising public awareness and answering questions to journalists regarding the implementation of the action for water.<\/p>\n

Another communication tool used by Tirana Water Supply and\u00a0Sewerage Company (Tirana WSSC) was an information leaflet distributed to customers along with the monthly bill. \u00a0The leaflet clearly describes all the necessary information and steps to be followed by the relevant customer, and an available phone number, free of charge, for any possible question.<\/p>\n

The awareness campaigns have been active also through social media (Facebook, twitter), newspapers, and on YouTube. \u00a0In several cities, the water utilities have organized meetings with residents of the respective administrative units.<\/p>\n

These campaigns gave quickly positive results in many water utilities, where customers have been queued to information desks, and many new service contracts and facilitation agreements for the debtors have been registered. \u00a0On the other side, the utilities have been active in identifying the illegal connections, taking the legal actions in such cases, and in replacing water meters that did not meet the proper technical conditions.<\/p>\n

On January 29th<\/sup>, Damian Gjiknuri, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure held a press conference announcing the postponing of the deadline for the fulfillment of obligations by residential customers, until February 28th<\/sup>, 2018.\u00a0 The postponement was due to the increase of the customer queues at the utilities counters, and with the purpose of giving more time to all residents to complete the necessary legal procedures.[:]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
