In the last \u201cBURIMI\u201d issue SHUKALB started a series of interviews with different employees from water and wastewater utilities all over Albania.\u00a0 These interviews aim to bring to focus the most valuable asset of the water sector, the men and women who ensure the delivery of water and wastewater services for the people of Albania.\u00a0 This month we interviewed Engineer Durim Mustafaj, who is the Operational Director of Tirana Water Supply and Sewerage Company.<\/p>\n

– Mr. Mustafaj, how long have you worked in the water sector<\/strong>?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I am an Environmental Engineering by education, specialised in water treatment, and I have more than 13 years of experience in my profession. \u00a0After many years of work and experience in the private and public sector as an executive engineer, and due to the recent changes in the UKT’s management, I appraised the opportunity to become part of its staff. \u00a0As the Operational Director of UK Tirana, I had enough time to take control and assess all the problems of the water supply and sewerage network in the Municipality of Tirana.<\/p>\n

– What do you like most in your job? <\/strong><\/p>\n

Considering the issues that Tirana is facing, it is a great pleasure when the working teams in the field, together with engineers and the supporting staff, accomplish to provide solutions and resolve the complaints of citizens within a very short time. \u00a0Another satisfaction in my job is the fact that we have been able to have full control of the entire water supply network and to intervene in every problematic spot. \u00a0These timely interventions have helped us to bring down the level of water loss, and in the same time increasing significantly the quality of water supplied to all citizens.<\/p>\n

I believe that achieving success in your work is the greatest pleasure someone can get professionally.<\/p>\n

– What are the major challenges in your current job?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The major challenge in our work is to ensure a more qualitative service to the customers, as well as through new investments to increase the water supply hours, until we reach 24 hours a day. This is our challenge and the current goal of Tirana Water Supply and Sewerage Company.<\/p>\n

– Describe a typical day at your work<\/strong><\/p>\n

A typical day starts early in the morning, organizing the working groups according the program done the previous day. \u00a0Currently we have 20 working groups, which are always in the field implementing the planned projects and responding to consumer\u2019s complaints.<\/p>\n

I want to emphasize that we have shown our availability to accomplish every complaint.<\/p>\n

Today, if a citizen has a problem, we will immediately do an investigation and then develop an action plan. \u00a0Some issues need a more rapid intervention, others need more time or need further investments, but as I said, it is important not to neglect any problem.<\/p>\n

The working day begins in the morning, but you never know when it ends, because we often have to intervene with emergency during the night, in order to ensure water supply delivery to all citizens.<\/p>\n

– What is the message you want to give to the younger generation who want to work in the water sector?<\/strong><\/p>\n

To every new engineer and everyone else who wants to work in the water sector, I would like to encourage and advise them to take their knowledge in the field, and put it in practice. \u00a0But most of all, to have the will and desire to make a change, however small it may be. I believe that in Albania there are often misconceptions about the work, but I think from my experience, nothing is impossible and if we keep our professionalism and values high, then we succeed to leave our footprints and make a good work.[:]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
