In a continuation of SHUKALB\u2019s interviews with employees from water supply and sewerage utilities, this month we interviewed Mrs. Vitore Lekaj who covers the position of Head of Finance Department at Vau i Dejes Water Supply and Sewerage Company<\/p>\n

– Mrs. Lekaj, tell us about you!<\/strong><\/p>\n

I am 47 years old and I live in the small and charming town of Vau i Dejes.\u00a0 Currently I work at Vau i Dejes WSS Company where I cover the position of Head of Finance, a role that is very important to me.<\/p>\n

I have graduated from the Faculty of Economics, \u201cLuigj Gurakuqi\u201d University in Shkodra.\u00a0 During the years of the University, I paid attention to studies in both theory and practice, an approach that helped me to overcome the difficulties on my profession.<\/p>\n

Immediately after graduation, in year 1996, I started working at Shkodra Village Water Supply company, as a cashier. \u00a0I can say during the four years in this position, I have been apreacieted and rewarded through the gratitude of my superiors, but also the residents whom I served with devotion and loyalty.<\/p>\n

Vau i Dejes Water Supply and Sewerage Company was established in April 2000 and from that date until now I have managed the Financial and Accounting issues of this important company. \u00a0I would like to emphasize that the company inherited a much damaged network, starting everything from the beginning, but through the hard work, passing many difficulties, the company marked credible and impressive achievements.<\/p>\n

– What do you like most in your job? <\/strong><\/p>\n

The long 20-year work experience in managing a delicate and decisive department, such as Finance, has grown my desire to continue to work in this sector.\u00a0 \u00a0At the same time it has introduced me into many labyrinths of a discreet profession and has taught me to always stand victorious.<\/p>\n

I love my job as it serves to the quality of life of Vau i Dejes inhabitants, a community that deserves good standards of living. \u00a0I love working in the sector because I love water, having in mind how important this element is for people’s health. \u00a0I like working in this sector because of the direct and frequent communication I have with my colleagues, who I consider as members of a joint team aiming the success of the Vau i Dejes WSS company.<\/p>\n

Finally, my frequent participation in various workshops and events has made me confident and has been the key for solving lots of enigmas.<\/p>\n

– What are the major challenges in your job? <\/strong><\/p>\n

Challenges in my work have to do with the priorities of Vau i Dejes WSS company, categorized as new challenges and inherited ones, with a joint aim, that of ensuring water supply service to inhabitants in the proper quantity and quality.\u00a0 Once we\u2019ve achieved this, the next challenge remains the full payment of customers bills. \u00a0There should be no tolerance for this because water is a product that has a cost.<\/p>\n

I would add as another challenge, the relationship with various partners with whom our company cooperates, where you have to make sure that communication is correct and serious, and to be prepared to face different difficulties that can be encountered.<\/p>\n

– Describe a typical day at your work!<\/strong><\/p>\n

An ordinary day of my work is divided between the office work, the field and communication with partners.\u00a0 Office work consists in drafting balance sheets and projects, scheduling tasks for the next day, co-ordinating work related to bank, treasure house, tax office, statistics department, and monitoring. \u00a0Last but not least, is the keeping the records in the accounting system that is part of every day’s work routine.\u00a0 A neat economist pays particular attention to every little detail, preventing any possible weakness or improper functioning.<\/p>\n

– What is the message you want to give to the younger generation, who want to work in the water sector? <\/strong><\/p>\n

Everyone must feel as a true missionary about his job, that he has been entrusted with a delicate and patriotic task, that corruption is a vice and must be fought and that he is an expert on his job.<\/p>\n
