Exhibition<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Conference was greeted at the opening of the first day by the Minister of Economic Development of Kosova, Mr. Valdrin Lluka. \u00a0In his speech, Mr. Lluka emphasized the collaboration of his Ministry in a project co-funded with the Swiss Government, stating that the Ministry will initiate the closing phase of the project for rural systems, aiming to increase sewer system coverage from the current 70%. \u00a0In conclusion, the Minister assessed that the existence and work of the Inter-Ministerial Council on Waters will continue, and will be supported by the Wastewater Management Council.<\/p>\n<p>The first keynote address was given by Mr. Patrik Meier, from the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) in Kosova. \u00a0Mr. Meier shared with the audience the current problems and challenges of the water and wastewater sector with a focus on wastewater.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1840\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1840\" style=\"width: 286px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/shukalb.al\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Patrik-Meier.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1840\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1840\" src=\"http:\/\/shukalb.al\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Patrik-Meier.jpg\" alt=\"Mr. Patrik Meier, State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) in Kosova Photo Credit: Balkans Joint Conference &amp; Exhibition<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The first Plenary Session, of the program was dedicated to \u201c<strong>Wastewater Challenge &#8211; Are We Ready<\/strong>?\u201d. \u00a0The moderator, Mr. Kirk Mildner, Head of Urban Infrastructure and Transport division at KfW, opened the session with a presentation regarding the pending Wastewater Challenge, and the panelists who joined the discussions were representatives from different institutions such as Mr. Baton Begolli, Water Policy Advisor, Inter Ministerial Water Council, Kosova; Mr. Fejzi Mezini, Water Supply and Sewerage National Agency, Albania; Mr. Ndri\u00e7im Shani, Water Regulatory Authority, Albania; Mr. Petrit Tare, Korca Water Supply and Sewerage Company, Albania and Mr. Ilir Abdullahu, Prishtina Water Supply and Sewerage Company, Kosova.<\/p>\n<p>Following the Plenary Session, the program continued with two parallel sessions, the first focused on the Sewerage and Wastewater Treatment, and the second on Financial Management of Water Utilities.\u00a0 In the next two parallel sessions, the topics of Infrastructure Management of Water Supply and Sewerage Utilities, and Asset Management were presented and discussed.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1836\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1836\" style=\"width: 249px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/shukalb.al\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Baton-Begolli-Conf-2017.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1836\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1836\" src=\"http:\/\/shukalb.al\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Baton-Begolli-Conf-2017.jpg\" alt=\"Mr. Baton Begolli, Water Policy Advisor, Inter Ministerial Water Council, Kosova Photo Credit: Balkans Joint Conference &amp; Exhibition<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The second Plenary Session \u201c<strong>Capacity Development Programs &#8211; A Pathway to Performance Improvement<\/strong>\u201d was moderated by Mr. Cliff Hammer, Program Manager, Embassy of Switzerland in Macedonia, who raised the issues focused on the Capacity Development for Water Utilities of Albania and Kosova through the D-Leap\u2018s Programs. The discussion continued with Mr. Philip Weller, Danube Water Program, Austria; Mr. Christophe Di Marco, GIZ Open Regional Fund, Europa Juglindore; Ms. Elisabeta Poci, Water Supply and Sewerage Association of Albania and Ms. Nadire Vitija, Water and Wastewater Works Association of Kosova.\u00a0Customer Service and Commercial Efficiency and Water Loss Management were the last sessions treated during the first working day of the Conference.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Albena Reshitaj, Minister of Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning of Kosova, during the opening of second day of the Conference, stated that this event is a very important initiative for raising awareness in the water sector, water resource management, and drinking water supply and sewage treatment.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1834\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1834\" style=\"width: 257px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/shukalb.al\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Albena-Reshitaj.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1834\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1834\" src=\"http:\/\/shukalb.al\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Albena-Reshitaj.jpg\" alt=\"Ms. Albena Reshitaj, Minister, Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning, Kosova Photo Credit: Balkans Joint Conference &amp; Exhibition \" width=\"257\" height=\"184\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1834\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Ms. Albena Reshitaj, Minister, Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning, Kosova<\/em><br \/><em>Photo Credit: Balkans Joint Conference &amp; Exhibition<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The third Plenary Session, \u201c<strong>Governance and Local Government: Role and Influence of Local Government in Tariff Setting<\/strong>\u201d was moderated by Ms. Jelena Janevska, Knowledge and Communications Manager, Network of Associations of Local Authorities of South-East Europe (NALAS), who opened the session talking about role and Influence of Local Government in Tariff Setting. \u00a0To discuss this theme, the invited panelists were Ms. Evis Gjebrea, Tirana Water Supply and Sewerage Company, Albania; Mr. Sazan Ibrahimi, Municipalities Association, Kosova; Mr. Goran Jevric, Regional Water Company, Montenegro and Mr. Hysni Feka, Water and Wastewater Regulatory Office, Kosova. \u00a0The program continued with the parallel sessions \u201cSewerage and Wastewater Treatment \u201cand \u201cAggregation and Regionalization &#8211; Is Bigger Better?\u201d The second parallel sessions were focused on \u201cRegulatory Framework\u201d, and \u201cDrinking Water Quality Management\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The final Plenary Session \u201c<strong>Sustainable Development Goals and the Challenges Presented in the Western Balkans<\/strong>\u201d was moderated by Mr. Baton Begolli, Water Policy Advisor, Inter Ministerial Water Council, Kosova. \u00a0To discuss this theme, the invited panelists were Mr. Rene Eschemann, Director for Kosovo and Macedonia, KfW; Mr. Bernhard Soland, Deputy Director, State Secretariat for Economic Affairs, SECO and Ms. Arlinda Ibrahimllari, Chair of Emerging Water Leaders of IWA and Member of the Task Force for the SDGs. The Conference program ended with the two last Parallel Sessions \u201cBig Water &#8211; Source, Treatment, and Transmission\u201d and \u201cWastewater Treatment and Energy Efficiency\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Technical Exhibition a Great Success!<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1837\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1837\" style=\"width: 266px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/shukalb.al\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Exhibition-2017.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1837\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1837\" src=\"http:\/\/shukalb.al\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Exhibition-2017.jpg\" alt=\"KontiHidroplast d.o.o exhibition booth Photo Credit: Balkans Joint Conference &amp; Exhibition \" width=\"266\" height=\"178\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1837\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>KontiHidroplast d.o.o exhibition booth<\/em><br \/><em>Photo Credit: Balkans Joint Conference &amp; Exhibition<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Participants at the Conference had the opportunity to visit the largest Technical Exhibition in the history of our annual Conferences.\u00a0 The Exhibition officially opened on the 1st of November, after the Gala Reception, and continued for two days in parallel with the Technical Program on the 2<sup>nd<\/sup> and 3<sup>rd<\/sup> of November.\u00a0 The Exhibition this year gathered 28 private companies coming from nine (9) different countries from the Balkan region, Europe, as well as Jordan, which showcased their very latest products, from pipes, pumps, meters, software to engineer consulting and management contractors, ensuring visitors to the event were treated to the best of what this innovative industry has to offer.<\/p>\n<p>A successful repeated experience during the Exhibition was also the joint SHUKALB and SHUKOS booth, a dedicated space of 24 sqm, situated close to the entrance of the main room of the Conference. \u00a0Participants had the opportunity to get information regarding the respective activities of each Association.\u00a0 A considerable space was dedicated to the Joint Training Program where participants received information on the specific training course planned for the rest of 2017 and into 2018, as well as information on the opportunities for being involved as a trainer and as local expert.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1832\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1832\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/shukalb.al\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/DSC_1430.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1832\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1832\" src=\"http:\/\/shukalb.al\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/DSC_1430-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"During the Training Courses Draw activity.
