On 7 November 2018, in the framework of the 6th<\/sup> Balkan Joint Conference and Exhibition, \u201cWater and Nature\u201d, organized by SHUKALB and SHUKOS, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy of Albania (MIE) and the Ministry of Economic Development of Kosovo signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for a Joint Test-Based Certification Program for Water Supply and Wastewater Operators in both countries.<\/p>\n

The aim of the MoU was for the respective Ministries to achieve common objectives on capacity building in the water supply and sewerage sector in order to provide safe and reliable water supply and sanitation services for present and for future generations.<\/p>\n

In the framework of the MoU, on 13 September, MIE received at its premises in Tirana a delegation of representatives from different institutions in Kosovo to include among others the Ministry of Economic Development of Kosovo, the Office of the Prime Minister, the Water Regulatory Agency, the Institute of Public Health, the Association of Water and Wastewater Works of Kosovo (SHUKOS). \u00a0The meeting was welcomed and led by the Deputy Minister of MIE, Hantin Bonati, and apart from MIE representatives it included also representatives from the institutions of Board of Certification to include National Agency for Water Supply and Sewerage and Waste Infrastructure, Water Regulatory Authority of Albania, SHUKALB, Association of Local Autonomy of Albania, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Economy.<\/p>\n

The purpose of the meeting was to establish contacts between the two respective Ministries in both countries, to coordinate joint activities in the implementation of the MoU. \u00a0During the meeting, the participants exchanged information on the progress of the certification process in both countries, and outlined further cooperation steps to implement the MoU.<\/p>\n

Lindita Sotiri, Director, Program Development Directorate on Water Supply, Sewerage, and Waste Infrastructure, MIE, and other representatives from MIE and AKUM shared the Albanian experience with the colleagues from Kosovo, as the first country in the region to formalize an Institutionalized National Training and Test-Based Certification Program for operational managers of Water Supply and Sewerage Utilities.[:]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
