Thanks to the support of the German Government and that of the Albanian Government, Pogradec Water Supply and Sewerage Company (Pogradec WSSC) has accomplished its goal and vision of ensuring 24\/7 supply with quality drinking water for the Progradec city and Bu\u00e7imas Administrative Unit, as well as 100% coverage with sewerage network for the city of Pogradec.<\/p>\n

Lake Ohrid is one of the oldest lakes in the world and it is well known for its unique aquatic ecosystem of worldwide importance, with more than 200 endemic species. Due to its unique properties, the lake has been designated UNESCO world heritage status.\u00a0 As such, the protection of water quality and the whole aquatic environment of the lake are of utmost importance to the Pogradec WSSC. All three phases of \u201cEnvironmental Protection of Lake Ohrid\u201d Project, implemented in 2004 – 2018, have consisted in the installation and coverage of the city of Pogradec and the Administrative Unit of Bu\u00e7imas with potable water network and sewerage system.<\/p>\n

New projects underway<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

Lin village, which was also selected as one of 100 villages for the rural development program in 2020-2021, benefited from the \u201cPotable Water Supply and Rehabilitation<\/em>\u201d Project, as result of which the quality of water services improved, contributing in this way positively to the everyday life of its citizens as well as the local tourism industry. The project consisted in investments in infrastructure and in the establishment of a totally new network after a long shortage of water supply.<\/p>\n

In June 2020, the implementation of the project for establishing a potable water supply system was launched in the Administrative Unit of Ud\u00ebnisht (villages of Ud\u00ebnisht and M\u00ebm\u00eblisht) with approximately 6,000 inhabitants. The whole new infrastructure is currently being completed for both villages, with 3 new warehouses, 2 of which require reconstruction and rehabilitation. After some 20 years of insufficient water supply, the investment in this administrative area will provide 24\/7 potable water supply in line with European Quality Standards within 2021.<\/p>\n

In the framework of the continued environmental protection of Lake Ohrid, all the families in the villages of Bu\u00e7imas, Guras, Remenj, Verdova, which were not part of the three-stage projects, are currently being provided with the installation of the sewerage systems.<\/p>\n

Since the 90s, the villages of the C\u00ebrrava Administrative Unit (Leshnica, C\u00ebrrava, Stropcka, Dardhas, Grabovica, Petrusha, Nizhavec, Lumas, Bllaca, Alarup, and Bletas) had received no investment related to potable water network systems.\u00a0 This lack of investments has resulted in deteriorated quality of services, impacting negatively the quality of life for the citizens. Following the findings of the feasibility study, the WSSC of Pogradec has already started to implement a project on the potable water supply component, in February 2021. When completed, the project will provide 24\/7 potable water supply for all residents of this unit.<\/p>\n

Moreover, another investment on water supply networks is being implemented in the area of Mokra, which includes a large number of villages and residents. Mokra region is a mountainous area and the terrain is relatively difficult when it comes to installing all connections, but 24\/7 service will be provided upon the conclusion of the project.[:]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
