Projekti p\u00ebr vitin 2015 \u00ebsht\u00eb titulluar “Lundrimi p\u00ebrgjat\u00eb Drinit”, dhe q\u00ebllimi i saj kryesor ishte hartimi i nj\u00eb programi p\u00ebr t\u00eb rritur nd\u00ebrgjegj\u00ebsimin rreth lumit Drin si nj\u00eb burim i \u00e7muar natyror, si dhe p\u00ebr t\u00eb rritur nd\u00ebrgjegj\u00ebsimin n\u00eb \u00e7\u00ebshtjet mjedisore q\u00eb kan\u00eb lidhje me lumin. Projekti gjithashtu ka p\u00ebr q\u00ebllim t\u00eb promovoj\u00eb advokimin e ujit p\u00ebrmes bashk\u00ebpunimit nd\u00ebrkufitar n\u00eb organizatat e sektorit t\u00eb ujit n\u00eb t\u00eb gjith\u00eb Ballkanin.<\/p>\n

Me 175 milje gjat\u00ebsi, Lumi Drin \u00ebsht\u00eb lumi m\u00eb i gjat\u00eb n\u00eb Shqip\u00ebri. \u00cbsht\u00eb burimi kryesor i energjis\u00eb hidroelektrike n\u00eb vend, si dhe p\u00ebrdoret p\u00ebr peshkim, ujitje dhe pushime. Prej disa dekadash, lumi \u00ebsht\u00eb b\u00ebr\u00eb gjithnj\u00eb e m\u00eb i ndotur p\u00ebr shkak t\u00eb trajtimit joadekuat t\u00eb uj\u00ebrave t\u00eb zeza, hedhjen e mbetjeve n\u00eb lum\u00eb, rrjedhjet nga dranazhet bujq\u00ebsore, dhe shkarkimet nga minierat e braktisura. Si rezultat, vihen re p\u00ebrqendrime te larta t\u00eb baktereve, t\u00eb tilla si E. Coli, te metaleve te r\u00ebnda dhe mbetje nitratesh n\u00eb lum\u00eb. P\u00ebrve\u00e7 k\u00ebsaj, Hidrocentralet kan\u00eb ndryshuar rrjedh\u00ebn natyrore t\u00eb lumit, duke shkaktuar rritjen e p\u00ebrmbytjeve bazuar n\u00eb raportet e ekspert\u00ebve.<\/p>\n

Edhe pse jan\u00eb b\u00ebr\u00eb p\u00ebrpjekje p\u00ebr t\u00eb p\u00ebrmir\u00ebsuar cil\u00ebsin\u00eb e ujit t\u00eb lumit Drin, progresi ka qen\u00eb i pabarabart\u00eb. Pellgu i lumit Drin p\u00ebrfshin jo vet\u00ebm Shqip\u00ebrin\u00eb, por edhe Malin e Zi, Maqedonine, Kosoven dhe Greqine, gje e cila ka komplikuar p\u00ebrpjekjet p\u00ebr menaxhimini e pellgut lumor. Nj\u00eb sfid\u00eb tjet\u00ebr p\u00ebr mbrojtjen e lumit Drin \u00ebsht\u00eb mungesa e edukimit dhe ndergjegjesimit te popullsise n\u00eb Shqip\u00ebri n\u00eb lidhje me ndotjen e lumit, shkat\u00ebrrimin e habitateve p\u00ebrgjat\u00eb lumit, dhe se si k\u00ebto ndikojn\u00eb n\u00eb cil\u00ebsin\u00eb e ujit dhe ekosistemit.<\/p>\n

P\u00ebrmes k\u00ebtij projekti t\u00eb p\u00ebrbashk\u00ebt me WPI, SHUKALB k\u00ebrkon t\u00eb promovoj\u00eb lumin Drin si nj\u00eb mjet bashkues n\u00eb p\u00ebrpjekjet p\u00ebr pastrimin e t\u00eb gjith\u00eb pellgut t\u00eb lumit Drin dhe motivimin e njer\u00ebzve p\u00ebr t\u00eb marr\u00eb masa p\u00ebr t\u00eb p\u00ebrmir\u00ebsuar kushtet e lumit. P\u00ebr t\u00eb punuar drejt k\u00ebtij q\u00ebllimi, ky projekt ka planifikuar nj\u00eb lundrim p\u00ebrgjate lumit, takim me njer\u00ebz dhe aktor\u00eb t\u00eb ndrysh\u00ebm, duke mbledhur imazhe dhe intervista p\u00ebrgjat\u00eb udh\u00ebtimit q\u00eb do t\u00eb sigurojn\u00eb informacion p\u00ebr zhvillimin e nj\u00eb dokumentari n\u00eb t\u00eb ardhmen.<\/p>\n

Zhvillimi dhe zbatimi i projektit do t\u00eb ndodh\u00eb p\u00ebrgjat\u00eb dy viteve, me skuadra t\u00eb ndryshme q\u00eb do t\u00eb p\u00ebrfshihen n\u00eb faza t\u00eb ndryshme. N\u00eb k\u00ebt\u00eb faz\u00eb fillestare, skuadra e WPI ka planifikuar itinerarin dhe an\u00ebn logjistike t\u00eb nj\u00eb lundrimi me kanoa p\u00ebrgjat\u00eb rrjedh\u00ebs s\u00eb lumit Drin. N\u00eb pranver\u00eb t\u00eb vitit 2016, nj\u00eb grup i Profesionist\u00ebve t\u00eb Rinj t\u00eb Ujit nga Shqip\u00ebria dhe Kosova (PRU) do t\u00eb lundrojn\u00eb \u00a0p\u00ebrgjat\u00eb lumit Drin ( n\u00eb t\u00eb dy: Drini i Zi dhe i Bardh\u00eb), do t\u00eb mbledhin pamje dhe do t\u00eb kryejn\u00eb intervista me njer\u00ebz p\u00ebrgjat\u00eb lumit. Gjat\u00eb faz\u00ebs s\u00eb fundit, n\u00eb vjesht\u00eb t\u00eb vitit 2016, nj\u00eb tjet\u00ebr skuad\u00ebr e WPI t\u00eb prodhoj\u00eb nj\u00eb dokumentar duke p\u00ebrdorur t\u00eb gjith\u00eb materialet e arkivuara nga dy fazat e m\u00ebparshme.<\/p>\n

Ata vizituan vende t\u00eb ndryshme si Peshkopia, Kuk\u00ebsi, Shkodra, liqeni i Fierz\u00ebs. Gjithashtu ata mor\u00ebn pjes\u00eb n\u00eb Konferenc\u00ebn dhe Ekspozit\u00ebn e P\u00ebrbashk\u00ebt Ballkanike, ku prezantuan projektin e tyre n\u00eb mbledhjen e grupimeve t\u00eb PRU-s\u00eb s\u00eb Shqip\u00ebrise dhe Kosov\u00ebs,si dhe u prezantuan n\u00eb panair pran\u00eb stend\u00ebs s\u00eb SHUKALB me postera dhe flet\u00ebpalosje.<\/p>\n

Megjith\u00eb pun\u00ebn e v\u00ebshtir\u00eb dhe sfiduese, p\u00ebrgjat\u00eb 8 jav\u00ebve t\u00eb tyre n\u00eb Ship\u00ebri duke dizenjuar projektin, student\u00ebt e WPI lidh\u00ebn miq\u00ebsi me an\u00ebtar\u00eb t\u00eb PRU-s\u00eb, t\u00eb cil\u00ebt punuan bashk\u00eb me ta, duke sh\u00ebrbyer si bashk\u00eb-k\u00ebrkues, udh\u00ebzues dhe p\u00ebrkthyes. For the third year in a row SHUKALB has been collaborating with Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), USA, on projects that involve a team of WPI students working in Albania for a period of 8 weeks. The project for 2015 was titled \u201cFloat Down the Drin\u201d, and its main goal was to design a program to increase awareness about the Drin River as a precious natural resource, and also to raise awareness on the environmental issues concerning the river. The project also aims to promote water advocacy through transboundary cooperation in water sector organizations across the Balkans.<\/p>\n

At 175 miles long, the Drin River is the longest river in Albania. It is used as the main source of hydroelectric power in the country, as well as for fishing, irrigation, and recreation. Over the past several decades, however, the river has become increasingly polluted due to inadequate wastewater treatment, the dumping of trash in the river, runoff from agricultural land, and discharge from abandoned mines.\u00a0As a result, high concentrations of bacteria, such as E. coli, and heavy metals and nitrates have been reported to be found in the river. \u00a0Additionally, hydroelectric power plants have altered the natural course of the river, causing increased flooding based on expert reports.<\/p>\n

Although efforts have been made to improve the water quality of the Drin River, progress has been uneven. The Drin River Basin extends beyond the borders of Albania, to include large parts of Montenegro, Macedonia, Kosovo, as well as portions of Greece, which has been reported to further complicate efforts to manage the river basin. Another challenge to protecting the Drin River is the lack of education and awareness in Albania about the pollution of the river, the destruction of habitats along the river, and how these affect the water quality and ecosystem.<\/p>\n

Through this joint project with WPI, SHUKALB seeks to promote the river as a means of connecting cleanup efforts throughout the Drin River Basin and motivating people to take action to improve the conditions of the river. To work towards this goal, the project will involve a river float down the Drin, meetings with different people and stakeholders, and in so doing, to record interviews and collect images along the journey that will provided information for the development of a documentary.<\/p>\n

The project development and implementation will take place in two years, with different teams involved at different phases.\u00a0 At this initial phase, the WPI Team planned the route and logistics of a canoe float down the length of the Drin River.\u00a0 In Spring 2016, a group of Young Water Professionals from Albania and Kosovo (YWP) will float down the Drin river (both the Black and White Drin) and collect footage of the river and conduct interviews with people along the river.\u00a0 During the final phase, in the Fall of 2016, another WPI Team will produce the documentary using footage of the river and interviews.<\/p>\n

During their stay in Albania, the WPI students, together with YWP representatives and members visited different locations along the Drin River in order to gather information about the project. Their visits included Peshkopi, Kukes, Shkoder and Fierza Lake.\u00a0 They also participated in the Annual Balkans Joint Conference and Exhibition, where they had a chance to present their project at a side meeting of YWP of Albania and Kosovo, as well as the at SHUKALB\u2019s booth in the exhibit area, with posters and handouts.<\/p>\n

Along with the challenging work, over their 8-week period in Albania, in designing the project, the students from WPI formed friendships with YWP members, who worked closely with them, serving as co-researchers, guides and translators.\u00a0 The WPI team members included Daniel Stomski, Jessica Wedell, Nicole Quintal and Gareth Solbeck.\u00a0 The work of the WPI team would not have been possible and complete without the enthusiastic support and commitment of the YWP group of Albania that included: Arlinda Ibrahimllari, Sagida Guce, Anida Zeqirllari, Xhensika L\u00ebngu, Erlinda Xhebexhia, Sejla Kokojka, Fjordi Bisha.<\/p>\n

SHUKALB looks forward to the support of the water utilities and municipalities along the Drin in the Spring as the \u201cFloat Down the Drin\u201d phase of the project takes place.<\/p>\n
