Informing a Water Steward Certification Program for Craft Brewers in Albania<\/em><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Since 2013, SHUKALB has proudly collaborated with Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), USA, on impactful water and environmental projects. These initiatives bring WPI student teams to Albania for eight weeks to address pressing local challenges.<\/p>\n

This year, with the support of SHUKALB and Birra Ikon<\/a><\/strong>\u2014a newly launched craft brewing company in Albania\u2014the WPI team undertook an exciting project titled: \u201cInforming a Water Steward Certification Program for Craft Brewers in Albania.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

The main goal of this project was to develop a deep understanding of responsible water usage and opportunities for water conservation for new, craft and micro-brewing facilities (as opposed to existing larger facility retrofits) in Albania. Focusing on Birra Ikon and a local network of independent brewers, the project investigated the water needs of craft brewers in Albania and their interest in a potential water steward certification program for this sector and other relevant industries.<\/p>\n

On December 10, 2024, in Tirana, the WPI team presented their findings in a final study report among other student project presentations from the Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Professors Leslie Dodson, Laureen Elgert, and Curtis Abel from WPI also attended the event, lending their support and expertise.<\/p>\n
