Brixhida Gjika: 25 Years of Commitment to Drinking Water Quality<\/strong><\/h1>\n

\"\"<\/a>With over 25 years of experience in monitoring and operating in the water sector, Brixhida Gjika stands out as one of the most dedicated professionals in Albania\u2019s water supply and sewerage industry. Currently, she leads the Drinking Water\/Wastewater Quality Control Unit and Laboratory at the Pogradec Regional Water Supply and Sewerage Company.<\/p>\n

A Long Journey in the Water Sector<\/strong><\/p>\n

A graduate of the Faculty of Natural Sciences at the University of Tirana, Department of Chemistry, Brixhida has built a remarkable career in the water sector. In addition to her current role, she has served as a Local Expert\u00a0in the water supply and sewerage sector under the project \u201cSustainable Water Sector Capacity Development in Albania\u201d. Her expertise has been further honed through numerous\u00a0trainings, seminars, and conferences, which have enriched her professional skills and knowledge.<\/p>\n

Passion for Water Quality<\/strong><\/p>\n

For Brixhida, working in the laboratory and conducting analyses is the most fulfilling aspect of her profession. She considers it a privilege to directly influence the safety and quality of the water her community consumes.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is gratifying to know that my work has a direct impact on people\u2019s lives, ensuring that they have access to clean and safe water,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0she says.<\/p>\n

Beyond laboratory work, Brixhida finds it both challenging and rewarding to work with\u00a0new technologies, water purification processes, and the implementation of sustainable solutions\u00a0to improve water services.<\/p>\n

Key Challenges in the Water Sector<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to Brixhida, one of the most significant challenges in the water supply and sanitation sector is ensuring\u00a0consistent water quality. Monitoring chemical and microbiological parameters, treating water to eliminate pollutants, and managing water resources are ongoing priorities for water companies.<\/p>\n

Another pressing issue is the increasing demand for water due to rapid urban and economic development. Managing emergencies, such as accidental water pollution or droughts, requires swift and efficient responses to ensure the continuity of quality water supply. Additionally, raising community awareness\u00a0about sustainable water use remains a critical challenge.<\/p>\n

A Day at the Lab<\/strong><\/p>\n

A typical day for Brixhida begins with planning and scheduling laboratory analyses. Each morning, she examines water samples collected from various sources, including drinking water reservoirs, distribution networks, and wastewater treatment plants. Using state-of-the-art laboratory technologies, she ensures that every sample is meticulously analyzed.<\/p>\n

In addition to conducting analyses, a significant part of her day involves documenting and reporting results and maintaining laboratory equipment to guarantee the accuracy of measurements.<\/p>\n

A Message to the Young Generation<\/strong><\/p>\n

Reflecting on the importance of her work, Brixhida recalls a quote by Albert Einstein: \u201cHe who understands water, understands the whole world.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
