On April 23-24, in Tirana, SHUKALB successfully organized the specialized training course titled “Regulatory and Financing Aspects of Wastewater.”<\/em> This training marked the launch of the capacity development program \u201cIntroduction to Wastewater Systems for Managers and Engineers,\u201d<\/em> implemented by SHUKALB under the framework of the Regional Capacity Development Network (RCDN) project.<\/p>\n

This two-day module brought together representatives from the Regional Water Supply and Sewerage Companies of Kor\u00e7e, Gjirokaster, Elbasan, Shkoder, Berat, Durres, and Vlore. The training focused on enhancing understanding of the legal and institutional framework governing the sector, addressing financing challenges, and raising public awareness about the importance of proper wastewater management.<\/p>\n

The course was led by Prof. Enkelejda Gjinali from the Polytechnic University of Tirana and Ms. Frosela Filo from the Kor\u00e7e Regional Water Supply and Sewerage Company, who shared their extensive experience and expertise in managing this vital sector. Through interactive sessions, group discussions, and practical exercises, participants explored a range of key topics, including:<\/p>\n

  • Assessment of the current situation of sewerage services in Albania;<\/li>\n
  • National and international legal frameworks, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and EU directives;<\/li>\n
  • Institutional structures and the challenges of sector reorganization;<\/li>\n
  • Sources of financing and self-assessment tools for local government units;<\/li>\n
  • Methodologies for determining tariffs for wastewater treatment services;<\/li>\n
  • Strategies for improving customer relations and public awareness.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    This training is part of an extended 8-day program, which will continue with topics such as new technologies in wastewater treatment, infrastructure project management, and the exchange of best practices in the region.<\/p>\n
