SHUKALB Joins Interreg Cross-Border Project to Reduce Water Losses<\/strong><\/h1>\n

\"\"<\/a>SHUKALB is part of the SDSLeaD \u2013 Smart Decision Support and Leakage Detection project, a new cross-border initiative between Albania and Greece aimed at tackling water leakages and reducing Non-Revenue Water (NRW) in the region. The project is implemented under the Interreg VI-A IPA Greece\u2013Albania Cross-Border Cooperation Programme and will run from October 2025 to October 2027.<\/p>\n

Water utilities in both countries face similar challenges, including aging infrastructure, delayed leak detection, limited real-time monitoring, and increasing pressure on water resources due to pollution, overexploitation, and climate change. These issues often lead to significant water and energy losses, higher operational costs, and environmental impacts.<\/p>\n

To address these challenges, SDSLeaD will develop and pilot an advanced Decision Support System (DSS) that combines innovative technologies such as IoT sensors, SCADA data, hydraulic simulation models, and digital twins. By using predictive analytics and real-time monitoring, the system will help water utilities detect leaks earlier, respond more quickly, and manage their networks more efficiently.<\/p>\n

The system will be pilot-tested in Kozani (Greece) and Kor\u00e7a (Albania), supported by the installation of smart monitoring equipment, including data loggers, pressure sensors, smart meters, and flow monitoring devices.<\/p>\n

Beyond the technological solution, the project will also focus on strengthening the capacities of water utilities through training activities, workshops, and the development of technical guidelines and knowledge-sharing tools. A joint action plan and policy recommendations will also be developed to support the long-term adoption of improved leakage management practices.<\/p>\n

The project is led by the Municipal Water Supply and Sewerage Company of Kozani (DEYAK) and implemented in partnership with the General Secretariat of Natural Environment and Water of Greece, Kor\u00e7a Regional Water Supply and Sewerage Company, and SHUKALB.<\/p>\n

Within the project, SHUKALB will play an important role in capacity building and knowledge transfer, supporting training activities for water utilities, contributing to data collection and analysis on water losses, and disseminating project results through its national network of utilities.<\/p>\n

By combining innovation, digitalisation, and cross-border cooperation, the SDSLeaD project contributes to improving water efficiency and sustainability in the region, while supporting the objectives of the EU Drinking Water Directive, the EU Water Framework Directive, the European Green Deal, and Sustainable Development Goal 6 \u2013 Clean Water and Sanitation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
