SHUKALB Participates in the Balkan Regional Coordination Meeting on Strengthening Water Governance<\/strong><\/h1>\n

\"\"<\/a>On 5 June 2026, SHUKALB participated in the Balkan Regional Coordination Meeting entitled \u201cThe EU Alignment Process as a Key Mechanism for Strengthening Water Governance in the Balkan Countries\u201d<\/em>, held in Struga, North Macedonia, as part of the ONE WATER II Project.<\/p>\n

SHUKALB was represented at the event by Arbana Kola, Manager of Projects, who joined representatives of public institutions, regional organizations, water sector experts, and private sector stakeholders from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Serbia.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>The meeting focused on the alignment of national water policies with European Union legislation as a key mechanism for strengthening water governance across the Balkan region. Discussions addressed ongoing water sector reforms, opportunities and challenges related to the EU accession process, and the importance of transboundary cooperation for the sustainable management of shared river basins.<\/p>\n

The agenda also featured presentations on regional initiatives for transboundary water governance, including the International Sava River Basin Commission, the Drin Project, and UNESCO’s DIKTAS II Project, followed by a roundtable discussion on strengthening partnerships between public institutions and private stakeholders in water governance.<\/p>\n

The event was organized within the framework of the ONE WATER II Project, implemented by CIHEAM Bari in partnership with the One Water Committee, and represents an important milestone in preparation for the Euro-Mediterranean Water Forum, which will take place in Rome, Italy, from 29 September to 2 October 2026.<\/p>\n

SHUKALB’s participation in this regional meeting reaffirms the Association’s commitment to promoting regional cooperation, facilitating the exchange of knowledge and best practices, and supporting the alignment of the water sector with European Union policies and standards, contributing to more sustainable and effective water resources management throughout the region.<\/p>\n
